Frequently asked questions
Why don’t I see the option to add a Wallet Pass?
Wallet Access Credentials must be offered by your property and enabled for your resident account. Contact your property management team if you don’t see Manage Wallet Pass in the ButterflyMX mobile app.
What should I do if I get a new phone?
Wallet Passes cannot currently be transferred from one phone to another. You’ll need a new Wallet Pass for your new device.
Contact your property management team before setting up the Wallet Pass on your new phone so they can help you replace your existing credential.
What should I do if my phone is lost or stolen?
Contact your property management team immediately so they can revoke your Wallet Pass.
You can also remotely remove the Wallet Pass from your device using:
- Find My for an iPhone or Apple Watch
- Google Find My Device for an Android phone
How many devices can I use?
You can use your resident Wallet Pass on either:
- One iPhone and one Apple Watch, or
- One Android phone
The same Wallet Pass cannot be used across both Apple and Android devices.
Can I use ButterflyMX Wallet Pass without an internet connection?
Yes. After ButterflyMX Wallet Pass is added to your wallet, you can use it to unlock compatible doors and gates without an internet connection.
Internet access is only required during the initial setup process. However, your phone must have battery power for ButterflyMX Wallet Pass to work.
What happens if my iPhone battery dies?
Apple’s power reserve feature allows Wallet Passes using Express Mode to continue working for up to five hours after your iPhone battery dies.
Which doors can I unlock with my Wallet Pass?
Your Wallet Pass works at the ButterflyMX-enabled doors and gates your property has authorized you to access. Some access points at your property may not support or allow Wallet credentials.
Wallet Access Credentials are compatible with supported ButterflyMX 8-inch and 12-inch intercoms, as well as supported keypad, single-gang, and mullion access readers.
What happens if I accidentally remove the Wallet Pass from my Wallet?
Contact your property management team. You’ll need to add the Wallet pass again, which may require your property to issue an additional credential.
To avoid losing access, don’t remove the Wallet Pass from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet unless your property management team instructs you to do so or you’re permanently giving up the Wallet Pass.
Can I transfer my Wallet Pass to another resident?
No. Wallet Passes cannot be transferred between residents.
What happens to my Wallet Pass when I move out?
When your property removes your resident account or disables Wallet access, your Wallet Pass is automatically revoked. It will no longer unlock any doors or gates at the property.
