If multiple people live in the same apartment, there are two common ways accounts can be set up in ButterflyMX: individual user accounts or a shared account used on multiple phones.
Individual User Accounts (Most Common)
In this setup, each person in the apartment has their own ButterflyMX account.
Each user appears separately in the intercom directory
Visitors choose which person to call
Only the selected user receives the call
Example
If three people live in the same apartment, the directory may display:
John Smith - Apt 204
Maria Smith - Apt 204
Alex Smith - Apt 204
If a visitor selects Maria Smith, only Maria receives the call.
Shared Account (Calls Ring Multiple Phones)
If you want multiple phones to ring at the same time, a shared account can be used.
In this setup:
One ButterflyMX account is used on multiple phones
Everyone signs in using the same email address and password
The directory shows one name
When someone calls that entry, all phones logged into the account ring
The first person to answer takes the call.
Example
The directory might display:
Smith Family - Apt 204
When a visitor selects this entry, all phones logged into that account will ring simultaneously.
How to Set This Up
If you want to switch to a shared account setup, contact your property manager or building administrator. They can update the accounts so one shared account remains active and adjust the directory name if needed.
