Overview
This guide walks installers through commissioning dormakaba EVO LZ locks using the dormakaba Lyazon Utility App, then setting the lock to Offline operating mode (sometimes called “BLE/offline mode”).
If you’re installing locks for Online (Wi‑Fi) operating mode, use this guide instead: How to Set Up the ButterflyMX dormakaba EVO Online Smart Lock Integration
Before You Start (Requirements)
What you’ll need
- Lock hardware fully connected and powered on
- Smartphone (iOS/Android) with Bluetooth enabled
-
A Lyazon account invitation (required to log into the app)
- Be sure to include the building name and OFFLINE site status in your Lyazon Account Request.
- Install the Lyazon Utility mobile app (not the Sandbox version)
- Temporary 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi available during commissioning (building Wi‑Fi or a mobile hotspot) that meets the lock Wi-Fi requirements here
- Door unit matrix provided to your ButterflyMX representative
Expectations
- Offline / BLE installations should be handled by a qualified dormakaba integrator.
- We strongly recommend commissioning locks offsite prior to installation. This process can be time consuming when utilizing a hotspot and a large quantity of locks.
- Firmware updates are required before the lock can be placed in offline mode. This process must be performed by Dormakaba Tech Support. Scheduling / coordination with Dormakaba is necessary during this process. Coordinate with your ButterflyMX representative / Solutions Architecture team.
Set up your Lyazon account (required)
Follow this Help Center guide: How to Set Up the dormakaba Lyazon Account
Step 1 — Log into the Lyazon Utility App
- Open the Lyazon Utility App.
- Log in with the account you created from the invitation email and choose the building name.
Step 2 — Connect to the lock over Bluetooth (BLE)
- Stand next to the lock.
- In the Lyazon Utility App, tap Find lock.
- At the lock keypad, enter: *#*#
- Select the lock in the app and connect.
Step 3 — Commission the lock (temporary Wi‑Fi step)
- In the Lyazon Utility App, start the commissioning flow for the lock.
- When prompted, enter the Wi-Fi SSID / Password and confirm the Timezone. Then, name the lock according to the unit matrix provided to ButterflyMX.
- Wait for the app to confirm commissioning is complete. The lock will reboot and then attempt to connect to the SSID provided.
- Confirm the lock is online by entering **1# on the keypad. Blue / Green indicates the lock is connected.
- If the lock is unable to connect, please confirm Wi-Fi requirements and refer to page 2 of dormakaba's commissioning guide for troubleshooting steps.
Step 4 — Update lock firmware to 18.05
- Once the lock is online, reach out to Dormakaba tech support to update lock firmware.
- Confirm lock firmware is updated to the latest Firmware in Lyazon Utility App > Device Details page.
Step 5 — Set the lock to Offline (BLE) operating mode
Important: Keep the lock connected to Wi‑Fi (building Wi‑Fi or hotspot) during this step. The lock needs a brief cloud sync to prepare Offline mode.
- Stand next to the lock (stay within Bluetooth range).
- In the Lyazon Utility App, tap Find Device.
- On the lock keypad, enter *#*#
- Select the lock that appears (example: saffire.XXXX) and wait for the device details to fully load.
- Scroll down and tap "Set to Offline" operating mode.
- Confirm / Save if prompted.
- Wait while the lock applies the change (you may hear beeps and/or the lock may restart).
If you see “1033” after setting to 'Offline Mode':
This is expected behavior when switching from Online (Wi‑Fi) to Offline (BLE) mode. Even though it may look like an error, it usually means the lock has started the Offline-mode transition and is waiting for required cloud tasks to complete.
In most cases, you will need to press Set to Offline operating mode twice:
What to do
- After the 1033 message appears, tap OK.
- Wait (keep the lock on Wi‑Fi during this wait).
- Tap Set to Offline operating mode again to finalize the switch.
Typical timing (what to expect)
-
If no credentials were assigned to the lock yet (no PINs/fobs to sync):
- Wait about 45–60 seconds, then tap Set to Offline operating mode again.
- The Lyazon BLE session usually stays connected long enough that you typically won’t need to reconnect.
-
If credentials were already assigned to the lock (ex: master PIN, staff fobs):
- The lock may need ~5–10 minutes to download/sync configuration + credentials.
- The app may disconnect during this time. That’s ok.
- Reconnect (Find Device → *#*#) and tap Set to Offline operating mode again once the download is complete.
Step 6 — Verify the lock is operating in Offline mode
In Lyazon, confirm the lock now reports Offline operating mode
- Connect to the lock by selecting Find Device
- Enter *#*# on the keypad
- Choose the device that appears in the network scan and wait for the device details to populate
- Operation mode will display ONLINE or OFFLINE
2. Perform a functional test at the door using the ButterflyMX mobile app (coordinate site access with your ButterflyMX representative).
