Context:
Occasionally, you may encounter a hardware or software issue with the vehicle reader that requires you to power cycle (reboot) it. The following article walks you through two ways you can do this.
What to do:
Option 1: Power Cycle from the Power Supply (Recommended)
- Locate the external 24V power supply connected to the Vehicle Reader (typically inside an IDF closet, electrical room, or basement).
- Unplug the power supply.
- Go to the Vehicle Reader and verify that all lights on the device are off.
- Plug the power supply back in.
- Confirm the lights on the reader turn back on.
Option 2: Disconnect Power Directly at the Device
This step should be performed by a certified installer.
- Go to the Vehicle Reader installed outdoors
- Locate the power connector on the back of the device
- Unscrew and disconnect the power connector
- Confirm all lights are off
- Wait 30 seconds
- Reconnect the power connector securely to prevent water intrusion
Once completed, the device will restart. If issues continue after the power cycle, please reach out to ButterflyMX Support and we will be happy to assist further.
