Overview
The Yale smart lock integration provides unified access management for both unit and common area doors through the ButterflyMX OS.
Residents and staff can use the ButterflyMX app for access via PIN, Swipe to Open (via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth), and Visitor Pass.
All access management is centralized in the ButterflyMX OS, eliminating the need for multiple systems or physical keys.
Yale smart locks require initial programming via the Yale Access App before integration with ButterflyMX can be complete. Refer to How to Setup your Yale Smart Lock integration for initial lock setup and integration with ButterflyMX.

ButterflyMX OS Information for Property Managers
Device Management in ButterflyMX OS
Devices Page > Smart Locks Tab: View all commissioned smart locks, their status (online/offline) and battery level.
Smart Lock Device Detail: See door release history (with user data obscured for privacy), permissions (who has access), and lock events.
Assigning Access
Unit Smart Locks: When a tenant is assigned to a unit with a smart lock in the ButterflyMX OS, they automatically receive access via the ButterflyMX app on their move-in date. Removing a tenant removes their access.
Common Area Locks: Managed via Access Groups. Admins can add these locks to default or custom groups to control tenant or vendor access.
Admin Access: Managed via Access Groups. Admins can add admins or vendors to “Smart Lock” Access Groups for access to all locks, or only some, if desired.
Syncing Updates (BLE)
For properties that do not have building-wide Wi-Fi, any updates to PIN or tenant access, including Visitor Passes and moving tenants in and out, these changes must be synced via the ButterflyMX app within close proximity to the lock.
Please refer to How to Sync Credentials to Yale Smart Lock via Bluetooth for more information.
Additional Features & Best Practices
Battery Alerts for Online Locks: Enable tenant alerts at 10% battery and admin alerts at 25% from the Integrations page in the OS. Refer to the How to Enable Battery Alerts in the ButterflyMX OS for more information.
Vendor Access: Use Visitor Pass or create custom Access Groups for vendors.
If you factory reset or replace your lock for any reason, please refer to the How to Set Up the Yale Smart Lock Integration to program your lock via the Yale Access app and add ButterflyMX as an owner to complete the integration.
Auto-Lock and Auto-Lock Timing (via DoorSense) are configured in the Yale Access app and not controlled by ButterflyMX. The ButterflyMX app only unlocks Yale smart locks.
