Battery Alerts & Maintenance Windows
In the ButterflyMX OS, battery alerts provide a proactive window to prevent lockouts. Because power consumption varies by hardware, we use tailored alerting logic: Yale Wi-Fi (WF1) locks trigger Low at 20% and Critical at 10% (1–3 weeks lead time), while all other Wi-Fi brands trigger at 15% and 10% (4–8 weeks lead time). Offline/BLE-only locks use a tighter threshold of 10% for Low and 5% for Critical, providing up to 10 weeks of notice.
Please note that these alerts rely entirely on data transmitted from the lock; if a lock experiences hardware failure or loses connectivity, it may be unable to report its status or trigger an alert in the OS.
Expert Pro-Tip: Environmental & Usage Factors > Actual battery life may be shorter than estimated if a lock experiences excessive daily usage, poor Wi-Fi signal strength (forcing the lock to work harder to stay connected), or extreme cold weather, which can cause sudden voltage drops. We recommend more frequent physical checks for high-traffic or exterior locks during winter months.
You can find and filter by current smart lock Battery Level in the ButterflyMX OS on the Devices page:
To enable Battery Alerts for tenants and admins for your smart locks, please follow the steps below.
What to Do:
From the ButterflyMX OS, navigate to the Integrations page. Then choose your smart lock dashboard:
Scroll down to the Device Status Notification section. Here you can configure the following alerts:
Tenant Battery Alerts: Enable 10% battery alerts for tenants. These alerts are sent via email from ButterflyMX when their unit's smart lock reaches critical battery level.
Admin Smart Lock Status Notifications: Add or remove administrators to receive notifications when any smart lock at the property reports Low or Critical battery levels. Remember to hit save!
Only tenants associated with Unit 00 or admins will be listed here.
Alerts will persist until the batteries are replaced and the lock reports an updated battery level.
Please ensure lock reconnects to Wi-Fi once batteries are replaced, if applicable. This will ensure the shares updated battery levels and alerts with ButterflyMX.
