Context

LPR settings control whether residents can manage their own vehicles, how many vehicles each resident can add, and whether residents can give visitors license plate access. This article covers where to find those settings and what each one does.

What to do

1. From the main menu, go to Property Settings, then select Property Settings again.
2. Open the Access Settings tab.
3. Find the License Plate Recognition Access section. Check the box labeled Tenants can add, edit, and remove up to ___ personal vehicles.
   • Enter a number to cap how many vehicles each tenant can have.
   • Leave the field empty for no limit.
   • Leave the box unchecked if you want administrators to manage all vehicles.
4. Directly below, in the Visitor Passes section, check Offer visitor vehicle access using license plate recognition (LPR). When on, visitors have the option to enter their vehicle information and the gate opens automatically on arrival.
5. Save your changes.

Good to know

• The checkbox controls both permission and limit. Unchecked means only administrators can add or change vehicles. Checked with a number sets a per tenant cap. Checked with the field empty means no limit.
• The limit applies to every resident equally. There is no way to set a different maximum for an individual resident. If you need per resident control, leave the box unchecked and have administrators add vehicles directly.
• Residents always see their vehicles. If you leave the box unchecked, residents can still view the vehicles you have authorized on their behalf. They simply cannot edit or remove them. See How to add and manage vehicles in the ButterflyMX resident app.
• Lowering the vehicle limit is not retroactive. Residents who already exceed the new limit keep every vehicle they have authorized. ButterflyMX will not remove vehicles on their behalf. Those residents are blocked from adding or editing vehicles until they reduce their count to the new limit. If you lower the limit, tell residents directly and give them a set window (two weeks works well) to remove vehicles.
• Turning off visitor LPR is a good option for properties without visitor parking, or where staff want to control all vehicle access at the gate.
