Maintenance Agent now in Beta, free trial period begins
Release Details: We recently launched Maintenance Agent in open beta; an AI agent that handles and manages maintenance requests. Residents report issues in the ButterflyMX app they already use. The Maintenance Agent helps move each request forward by capturing the issue, collecting the right details, and keeping residents and property managers updated along the way.
Why it Matters: Maintenance coordination is a huge hidden cost for property managers, so we built an agent to take it on. Our new agent triages, coordinates, and routes the request while giving vendors and service providers time-limited access codes tied to work orders. The agent handles routine workflows autonomously, property managers handle exceptions.
Learn More: Maintenance Agent is in open beta, free through the end of the year. See activation and setup details here
Camera OS updates redefine experience
Release Details: Last quarter we shipped a full redesign of the camera experience in the ButterflyMX OS. Users can now move freely through recorded footage, pull their own clips without a support ticket, and see access activity next to the video that captured it. We have six new capabilities to highlight:
- Scrubbable timeline: move to any moment in the recorded window
- Configurable exports: configurable time range, multiple cameras, email links, plus a new exports tab with full export history
- Camera groups: organize cameras by area, floor or entry type, shared property-wide
- Multi-view playback: several cameras playing back together on one timeline
- Access events panel: access activity beside the footage, one click to the access moment
- Enhanced playback controls: digital zoom, skip, variable speed, jump to an exact time
Why it Matters: Reviewing footage used to mean clicking through short clips one at a time and exporting cameras one by one. The new timeline and grouped, multi-camera exports turn that into a single continuous action, so investigating an incident or pulling footage for a resident takes a fraction of the time.
Learn More: The redesigned camera experience is live for all properties in ButterflyMX OS today. Learn how to navigate through the new pages here
Use Bluetooth to unlock access points
Release Details: Bluetooth lets the ButterflyMX mobile app connect directly to nearby access points powering 2 new capabilities. (1) It powers a backup connection that keeps swipe-to-open and unlocking working when an access point loses its internet connection and (2) lets the ButterflyMX mobile app connect directly to nearby access points.
Residents can now unlock doors from up to 10 feet away using Bluetooth, right from the app's home screen. A Bluetooth icon shows when a door is in range, and the Unlock button appears automatically for whichever door is closest, so there's no guesswork about which door you're about to open.
Why it Matters: Fumbling for the right door in an app, or losing signal right as you reach for the handle, is a small but constant frustration. Our bluetooth functionality removes both problems; the app already knows which door you're closest to, and Bluetooth keeps working even when Wi-Fi or cell signal doesn't.
Learn More: Update to the latest version of the ButterflyMX app on iOS or Android to start using Nearby unlock. Learn how to use Bluetooth fallback in the resident app here and how Nearby Access works here.
OS redesign makes for easier navigating
Release Details: A redesigned navigation for ButterflyMX OS has been rolling out in stages and is now the default experience for new users. All the screens you're used to using are still there, just reorganized. Everyday tasks are toward the top, one-time or occasional setup are toward the bottom, and related screens are grouped together. We've also made it easier to switch between multiple properties. Just click on the current property name in the header, or "All Properties" if you haven't selected one yet, to see a menu.
Why it Matters: The new navigation is built around how property managers actually move through their day, making it faster to find the page or property you're after. The small fixes alongside it, like being able to create a visitor pass right from the list you're already looking at, remove extra clicks from things you do often.
Learn More: Existing users can turn on the new navigation for themselves under My Account. New users get it by default.
Added cellular connectivity to elevate your property’s access control experience
Release Details: The ButterflyMX Cellular Routers combine preconfigured networking hardware, an activated SIM, a predictable cellular subscription, and remote management into one solution supported by ButterflyMX. Connect remote gates, garages, guard shacks, and detached buildings without trenching or adding a new ISP circuit; or keep critical entrances online when the property network goes down.
Why it Matters: Remote entrances are often the hardest to keep online, and an outage there means residents and guests are locked out with no way in. A managed cellular connection keeps those entry points working independent of building Wi-Fi.
Learn More: Contact your account manager or certified partner to add a Cellular Router to your property. You can explore more about this product offering here
Amazon Key integration unlocks hassle free access
Release Details: Property managers can now enable a building-wide integration that lets credentialed Amazon delivery drivers, and third parties who contract with Amazon (i.e., Grubhub, Ready Refresh, DoorDash, Roadie, and Veho), unlock your building's entry points directly through their delivery app, so packages get delivered without a lockbox, a shared code, or a call to the front desk. Every entry is logged, and access auto-expires once deliveries are complete.
Why it Matters: Missed packages and "where's my delivery" complaints are one of the biggest pain points for property managers, and this solves it at zero added cost.
Learn More: See the Help Center article on activating Amazon Key to get started now.
Smart lock improvements
Release Details: When a smart lock is recommissioned, it now automatically inherits the access groups, Swipe-to-Open, and Visitor Pass settings of the device it replaced, instead of needing manual reconfiguration. We also fixed a bug that was sending duplicate critical battery alerts on consecutive days, and resolved an issue that had caused some residents to intermittently lose Bluetooth unlock access.
Why it Matters: Recommissioning a lock used to mean re-granting access from scratch, now it just works the way you'd expect.
Learn More: These changes are live automatically, no setup required.
Mobile app updates across several touchpoints
Release Details: A batch of updates landed across iOS and Android over the past several weeks. You can now pin your most-used doors as Access Point Favorites right on your home screen. Building credentials can be added to Google Wallet. Tenants creating a visitor pass can now add a guest's license plate at LPR-enabled properties. Swipe-to-open and Bluetooth unlocks now respect the access schedules set on smart locks, and those schedules are now visible in the app. We also fixed a crash affecting the unlock slider for users of the TalkBack accessibility tool.
Why it Matters: Each of these removes a small piece of friction from getting through the door; favorites cut down on searching, Google Wallet means one less app to open, and LPR visitor passes mean a guest never has to call up or scan anything to get through the gate. The accessibility fix ensures Swipe to Open works reliably for everyone.
Learn More: For LPR visitor passes specifically, see the Help Center here for more information. All other updates are live automatically after updating to app versions 1.66.1 on Android and iOS v1.124.1.
