Resident quick guide
ButterflyMX readers help you enter building doors, gates, and shared spaces. Available entry methods depend on your property, the reader, and your assigned access.
Before using the app: Register through your ButterflyMX welcome email, download the ButterflyMX app, and sign in. Contact property management if you need help getting access.
Ways to unlock
| Entry method | What to do |
| Key fob or card | Tap your assigned fob or card on the reader. It must be programmed for your resident account before use. |
|
PIN Keypad readers |
At the keypad, enter your 6-digit PIN, then press #. To view your PIN, go to Account > My PIN in the app and tap the eye icon. |
| Swipe to open | Open the ButterflyMX app. On the home screen, find the door or gate you want to use and swipe right on its unlock button. |
|
Wallet Pass If enabled |
Go to Account > Manage Wallet Pass > Add and follow the prompts. Tap your supported iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android phone on a compatible reader. Your property must enable Wallet for your account. |
|
Nearby Bluetooth If enabled |
Turn on Bluetooth and allow the app to use it. Move within about 10 feet of a compatible reader. When the nearby button appears at the bottom of the app, confirm the door name and tap to unlock. |
Bluetooth availability: At properties that use Wallet passes, Bluetooth is not available on access readers.
If the door does not open
- Confirm that you’re trying to unlock a door or gate assigned to your account.
- For Bluetooth, move closer and check app permissions: Bluetooth on iPhone; Nearby Devices and Location on Android.
- Contact property management if a door or Wallet option is missing, or your fob or card is not working.
Lost a fob, card, or phone with a Wallet Pass? Tell property management promptly so they can deactivate the affected fob, card, or Wallet Pass.
