Context
ButterflyMX works with multi-sensor cameras from other brands. These are single cameras with several lenses. Each lens shows up as its own camera and works like any other camera.
Benefits
One physical camera can bring several lenses; each lens needs its own license. Since one physical camera can replace up several, there's only one mount, one cable, and one power source to install.
Requirements
- One license per lens
- A camera with four lenses needs four licenses.
- Size in lenses
- A gateway supports 10 cameras. Each lens counts as one.
- Validated models
- Axis P4707-PLVE · 4 lenses
- Hanwha PNM-12082RVD · 2 lenses
- Hanwha PNM-C9022RV · Panoramic
- Hanwha PNM-C16013RVQ · 4 lenses
- Other ONVIF cameras will likely work, though they have not been validated. Please see FAQ #2 for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does ButterflyMX sell multi-sensor cameras?
- We don't sell the cameras. We support third-party cameras that are purchased elsewhere.
- I have a camera that is not in the validated model list. What do I do?
- First, check that the camera is ONVIF compliant and meets our third-party camera requirements. If it does, it is likely to work. If you're able to send us your model, we can test it. If we proceed without testing, there is some risk it behaves differently. If this happens, please flag the model information to Support.
- How many multi-sensor cameras fit on a gateway?
- Depends on the lenses. The limit is 10 cameras per gateway, and each lens is a camera.
- If my camera has four lenses, am I able to manage four separate cameras now?
- Yes, and that is the point. Each lens can be named, permissioned, and grouped on its own, so a four-lens camera covering a parking lot can have each view labelled and shared with the right people.
- Can each lens point at a different access point?
- Yes. Each lens is its own camera, so each can be tied to its own access point.
- Do access groups work differently for these cameras?
- No. Each lens is treated as its own camera, so access groups, permissions, and camera groups work exactly as normal.
- Can you combine lenses into one 360 view? Can I have a single stitched 360 view?
- We do not support that today. Each lens is viewed separately.
