Context:
dormakaba EVO smart locks require a dedicated 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n (or earlier) wireless network with an unhidden SSID (no special characters). Port 443 (HTTPS) must be open, and a separate VLAN is essential.
The latest dormakaba EVO Wi-Fi requirements can be found here.
Key Requirements:
Signal Strength: Minimum -70db at the Wi-Fi communicator inside the lock. Refer to the Lock Installation Guide for communicator location.
Heatmap: We strongly advise the property to obtain a Wi-Fi network heatmap to verify signal strength at each lock.
Best Practices:
Use a managed wireless network for optimal coverage.
Tune signal broadcast strength to balance coverage and minimize interference.
Use static, staggered channel assignments; disable automated RF adjustments.
Minimize channel overlap and reuse.
Consider building materials (e.g., metal doors, wall thickness) for access point placement.
Restart access points after configuration.
Recommended for Battery Life:
Implement a Multicast filter on access points to reduce traffic.
Turn off background scanning features on access points.
Wi-Fi Communicator Location (Varies by Model):
Deadbolt (D) & Inter-connect (I): Inside housing.
Mortise (M), Cylindrical (L) & Exit trim (P): Outside housing.
Consult the Saffire EVO installation guide for specific models
