Context
Use the ButterflyMX mobile app to add, view, or edit the vehicles associated with your account. Your vehicle information is used to automatically open any gate you have access to when your vehicle approaches.
Note: Your property determines whether residents can add, edit, or remove vehicle information in the app.
Before you start
Your property must have license plate recognition enabled. Some properties manage vehicles on residents' behalf. If yours does, you can still see your vehicles but cannot change them, and you should contact your property manager to make any updates.
Add a vehicle
- Open the ButterflyMX mobile app.
- From the home screen, tap Account > My Vehicles.
- Tap Add vehicle.
- Enter the requested vehicle details in the app.
- Enter your License plate and State. Both are required.
- Optionally add Vehicle type, Make, Model, and Color.
- Save.
Your vehicle information is used to automatically open any gate you have access to when your vehicle approaches.
Find your vehicles
- Open the ButterflyMX app.
- Tap Account in the bottom right.
- Tap My Vehicles, the third option.
This page lists every vehicle authorized for your account. If your property limits how many vehicles you can add, you will see a count here, such as 2 of 3.
View, edit, or remove a vehicle
- From My Vehicles, tap the vehicle to view its information.
- Tap Edit vehicle to update any of its details, or Remove vehicle to delete it.
- Return to My Vehicles to see all vehicles authorized for your account.
Vehicle details may include:
- License plate
- State
- Vehicle type
- Make
- Model
- Color
If you cannot add, edit, or remove a vehicle
If your property has disabled resident vehicle management, the app displays this message:
“To add, edit, or remove vehicles, contact your property manager.”
Contact your property manager for help updating your vehicle information.
Tips for the best experience
- Keep your plate clean and clearly visible. Snow, mud, road salt, and heavy dirt can prevent a read.
- Avoid covering your plate. Bike racks, trailer hitches, and plate covers can block the camera's view.
- Keep your plate in its standard mounted position. A plate propped inside a windshield is unlikely to be recognized.
- Double check the issuing state. A plate saved under the wrong state will not be recognized.
- If you have reached your vehicle limit, remove a vehicle you no longer use, or contact your property manager.
- If the gate does not open, use Swipe to Open in the ButterflyMX app. Your app access always works as a backup.
