Overview
Compatible Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats — see supported models below — integrate with ButterflyMX to give residents control of their in-unit temperature directly from the ButterflyMX app. Before the integration can be activated, the thermostat must be physically installed, connected to Wi-Fi, registered using the ButterflyMX-provided First Alert login credentials, and verified in ButterflyMX OS.
⚠️ Important: Thermostats must be set up using the ButterflyMX-provided First Alert account credentials. If the thermostat is registered under a personal or property account, it will not auto-populate on the ButterflyMX platform.
What You'll Need
- Supported Honeywell Smart Wi-Fi Thermostat (installed and wired):
- T6 Pro or T10 Pro Wi-Fi
- ElitePro S900, S1000, S1100, S1200 WiFi
- FocusPro S200 WiFi
- Z-Wave models are not supported.
- A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and password for the unit
- Community Admin access to ButterflyMX OS — required to verify unit mapping after provisioning
- A smartphone with the First Alert app installed (iOS / Android)
- The ButterflyMX-provided First Alert account credentials (email + password) — found in ButterflyMX under Thermostats → Property Settings
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Install the Thermostat
Ensure the thermostat is physically installed and wired correctly per the Honeywell installation guide. The thermostat screen should power on upon completion.
Step 2: Complete the Thermostat's On-Screen Setup
- Follow the on-screen prompts on the display to configure basic settings (system type, date/time, etc.)
- When prompted to connect to Wi-Fi, select your 2.4 GHz network and enter the password
- The thermostat will confirm once connected to Wi-Fi
- Follow the relevant instructions to set ISU (Installer Setup Options) on the thermostat. You will need HVAC device details to set the system/equipment type — consult an HVAC installer for assistance if needed
📌 ButterflyMX cannot change or verify ISU or HVAC settings remotely. These must be configured on the device during programming by the installer.
Step 3: Download & Open the First Alert App
- Download the First Alert app on your smartphone
- Open the app and tap Sign In
- Do not create a new account — log in using the ButterflyMX-provided credentials
📌 Using the ButterflyMX-provided login is critical. This ensures the thermostat is registered under the correct account and will automatically appear in ButterflyMX OS.
Step 4: Add the Thermostat in the First Alert App
- Once logged in, tap the + icon or Add Device
- Select Thermostat as the device type
- Follow the in-app prompts — the app will search for and detect the thermostat using Bluetooth
- Confirm the pairing when prompted
- Assign a name to the thermostat
⚠️ Unit Naming: The name you assign in the First Alert app should match the unit name exactly as it appears in ButterflyMX OS (e.g., "Unit 101"). If your property uses a Property Management System (PMS), the unit name must also match what's in the PMS — mismatched names can cause sync failures.
Step 5: Verify the Device Connection & Functionality
- Once added, the thermostat should appear in the First Alert app's device list
- Confirm the status shows Connected
- Test HVAC controls and confirm the system is responding correctly — verify cool air in AC mode and warm air in Heat mode where applicable
Step 6: Confirm the Thermostat Appears in ButterflyMX OS
Once the thermostat is registered under the ButterflyMX First Alert account, it will automatically appear in ButterflyMX OS — no additional steps are needed to trigger this.
To confirm:
- Log in to ButterflyMX OS
- Navigate to Thermostats → Property Settings
- Confirm the thermostat appears and is assigned to the correct unit
- If any thermostat is mapped incorrectly, reassign it from this page before leaving the property
- Select the Thermostat → Edit → Show In-App or Do Not Show In-App (for Resident control via ButterflyMX mobile app)
If the thermostat does not appear within a few minutes of completing registration, do not re-register. Contact ButterflyMX Support using the link below.
Once mapping is confirmed, the thermostat will appear in the resident's ButterflyMX app, allowing them to control their temperature remotely. Property managers can manage all thermostat assignments and settings from the Thermostats page in ButterflyMX OS.
