⚠️ Key Reminders Before You Start:
- This is a BLE-only integration — locks do not connect to Wi-Fi
- Access methods: Swipe-to-Open (Bluetooth) and Kwikset fobs only — no PIN codes
- Only Kwikset UNITE 1000 (deadbolt) and 1100 (interconnect) are supported
✅ What You'll Need
- Confirmed compatible lock model (UNITE 1000 or 1100 only)
- Unit/door matrix with exact lock names matching ButterflyMX OS units
- Kwikset UNITE app invite from ButterflyMX (commissioning cannot begin without this)
- Commissioning phone with Bluetooth + internet access
- Kwikset fobs (if applicable)
Step-by-Step Setup
1 — Accept Your Kwikset UNITE App Invite
- Download the Kwikset UNITE app (iOS or Android)
- Sign in using your invited email and accept the site invitation
Don't have an invite? Contact your ButterflyMX rep — you cannot proceed without it.
2 — Install the Locks
- Physically install all locks per Kwikset's hardware instructions before commissioning
- 📎 Kwikset UNITE Platform Videos
3 — Commission via the Kwikset UNITE App (Must be near lock)
- Open the UNITE app → navigate to your property site
- Add Building → create floors and units (video guide)
-
Add Lock for each door and follow in-app steps (video guide)
- Lock will connect via Bluetooth and install latest firmware (allow a few minutes per lock)
- Name each lock exactly to match the unit names in ButterflyMX OS
⚠️ Naming must match exactly — mismatches prevent auto-mapping and require manual correction. Confirm naming convention with your ButterflyMX contact first.
4 — Verify in the UNITE App
Before notifying ButterflyMX, confirm:
- All locks appear under the property site
- All locks are correctly named
- All locks show as Active
5 — Notify ButterflyMX Support to Complete Integration
📞 (800) 398-4416 ext. 2 | 📧 support@butterflymx.com
ButterflyMX will then:
- Verify all locks mapped to corresponding units in the OS and enable swipe to open
- Push a firmware update to all ButterflyMX card readers and intercoms to read Kwikset fobs
6 — Fob Encoding (If Applicable)
⚠️ Must be physically at a Kwikset UNITE lock on-site to complete
- Open the ButterflyMX app as a Property Manager or Admin
- Tap "+ Kwikset Fob" at the top of the home screen
- Follow in-app prompts → hold fob against the lock to encode
💡 Kwikset fobs work at both unit locks and ButterflyMX card readers/intercoms — one fob, building-wide access. Full fob programming guide →
7 — Test the Integration
- Add a test user to a unit in the ButterflyMX OS
- Open the ButterflyMX app → go to Devices
- Stand within 10–15 feet of the lock with Bluetooth on
- Perform a Swipe-to-Open and confirm the lock releases
