Purpose
This guide explains how to connect a push-to-exit (PTE) button and a motion sensor in parallel to a REX input on the ButterflyMX 2 Door Controller to enable door unlocking from either device.
Prerequisites
- ButterflyMX 2 Door Controller installed and powered
- Door lock connected and functioning
- Access to REX terminals (REX & SNS)
- Push-to-exit button (dry contact)
- Motion sensor with relay output (dry contact)
- Low-voltage wiring (18–22 AWG recommended)
Important WarningAll connections must be hardwired Devices must provide dry contact outputs (NO/COM) Do NOT apply voltage to REX terminals Ensure proper and secure wiring |
Wiring Summary (Parallel Connection)
| Push To Exit | Motion Sensor | 2-Door Controller Terminal |
COM | COM | SNS |
NO | NO | REX |
Procedure
- Locate REX and SNS terminals on the controller.
- Prepare wiring using 18–22 AWG cable and strip ends.
- Connect PTE COM and Motion Sensor COM to the SNS terminal.
- Connect PTE NO and Motion Sensor NO to the REX terminal.
- Secure all connections and check for loose wires.
- Test push-to-exit button and verify door unlock.
- Test the motion sensor and verify door unlock.
- Validate that both devices trigger independently.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Neither device works
Solution: Check wiring and confirm dry contact output.
Issue: Only one device works
Solution: Inspect the wiring of the non-working device.
Issue: Door unlocks randomly
Solution: Adjust motion sensor sensitivity and check wiring.
